Saturday, November 26th, 2011

Lucky fan Tamara from Germany won a contest from Bravo magazine which gave her the chance to visit the Breaking Dawn set in March.
Check out the pictures:

Lucky indeed! Some people actually paid in very expensive auctions for the chance she got for free. We hope we get pictures of that too.

The Tale of a Breaking Dawn Extra

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

Imagine you live in Vancouver and score the role of an extra in Breaking Dawn. And for not just any scene – the wedding scene. And if that’s not enough, you even get to shoot scenes with Rob and Kristen, and you get to say words to them and film them several times. That’s what happened to a Twilight fan whose story was shared by the Vancouver Sun.

The next morning, I saw a frogman on the opposite river bank. Security was on high alert, a crew member told me. That morning, paparazzi in wet suits had tried to swim past. An extra with a camera had been ejected the day before. All of them seeking a $100,000 photo of the bride.

Before the ceremony, Robert Pattinson stood around being handsome and smoking at every chance. Kristen Stewart looked amazing in her modest gown, but appeared freaked out about something. They cuddled and he seemed to console her. It was a real-life drama playing out before us and all we extras could do was gawk. Aw, how sweet, they really love each other.

Then, a helicopter began to circle and production stopped. Walkie-talkies spouted angry instructions, security people scurried, and giant black umbrellas were opened over the actors to block views from the air. The battle against the paparazzi was on and we sat freezing for two hours waiting for a truce.

The next night’s scene was the wedding reception, on a set done up like a hobbit banquet. The Assistant Director looked us over and pointed to me and another woman. “You and you, the principle and the math teacher.” We were put into a shot where we had to mime congratulations and walk away, which made me feel more like the “fortunate few” and less of a production prisoner.

As the other gal and I worked out who was the principle and who the math teacher, we laughed about the set, the story and the now pouring rain. By the time we were face to face with Pattinson and Stewart we were suppressing snorts. I was dying to tell Stewart how much I loved Runaways, but we were bound by celebrity gag order, which made for the most awkward party moments ever.

After one rehearsal, shooting began. I mimed my congratulations, but then, as if time had slowed, I paused, like I had more words to mime. Then, came my ultimate humiliation.

I looked down and saw Kristen Stewart lifting her tiny hand and baby waving me away. Mortified, I could not have turned away faster without spilling my fake champagne. By the time Principle Sarah and I had joined a circle of guests, I was hyperventilating and sweating. I couldn’t believe I’d dragged a two-second shot into three seconds! But, like all movies, they shot more takes, so I was able to redeem myself, although it meant more uncomfortable moments shunning the actors.

Seven months later, I watched the film only to find my big moment had been cut and replaced by banter with the werewolf family. I wasn’t crushed since being edited out is what I’ve come to expect no matter how much I hope for inclusion. After all, being a background extra means you are always a guest and never a bridesmaid.

How Much Did Bella and Edward’s Wedding Cost and Guess What Most of The Budget Paid For

Monday, November 21st, 2011

Centives.net breaks down the cost of Edward and Bella’s wedding in Breaking Dawn. Let’s see if it costs exactly what you thought.

As guests to the wedding drove up to the house, they first saw three miles of Christmas lights hanging from the trees. This was a very expensive touch costing $8,510.88 according to a quote from Home Depot.

But what about the bride herself? Carolina Herrera designed the wedding gown that Bella wears in the film. Dresses made by the Venezuelan designer retail for around $6,000. By having Edward’s sisters do all of the hair and makeup without professional help, the couple saved a fair amount of money. Bella’s engagement ring was handed down through Edward’s family and so didn’t cost any money. Edward’s ring is never mentioned but on average a gent’s wedding band costs around $600. Right before Bella leaves the dressing room the book describes her slipping on a white garter. Victoria’s Secret sells these for $15.

As Bella walks down towards the aisle, the banisters are shown to be covered with lilacs, orange blossoms, freesia, and roses. The book describes the house as being filled with 20,000 assorted flowers. This is a startling amount and if we assume that the Cullen’s were able to negotiate a low price of just $1 per flower, then the flora alone would cost $20,000. The ceremony itself is small with perhaps 50 guests at the wedding. The satin drapes for the chairs would cost $110.

For the reception the Cullens book a live band to serenade the guests. A live band from the area costs around $1500. And the reception tent could be bought for as little as $210. The “grand cake” described in Breaking Dawn and depicted here would cost $800.

The grand total for this immortal wedding comes out to about $38,000, with flowers taking up more than half of the budget. To put things in perspective wedding planners surveyed by Centives recommend spending 8% of your overall wedding budget on flowers.

Are you planning a wedding soon? Were you inspired by Breaking Dawn? Let us know in the comments!

Time Writes About The Harsh Bigotry of Twilight-Haters

Monday, November 21st, 2011

In a new fantastic article for Time.com, Erika Christakis points out the bigotry and double standards that Twilight haters apply when attacking the series. We’ve heard it all before: it sends a bad message to young girls, it’s often too violent, or too romantic, or too intense. Whatever reasons they choose for their dislike against the series, it seems like they’re forgetting that other series they like feature some of the same characteristics. Here are some highlights of the article.

The negative reactions fall in two camps: The dismissive camp simply mocks Twilight’s incorporation of silly, “moony” elements like undying love and the surprisingly authentic portrayal of wedding ritual, honeymoon jitters and the shock of unintended pregnancy; the topics are apparently too boring and unrelatable for most reviewers. The deluded camp, conversely, takes Twilight far too seriously, faulting it for leading young girls to mistake fantasy for reality in dangerous, disempowering ways.

It makes you wonder if some people missed the memo that hundreds of millions of females, like their male counterparts, enjoy their fantasy life straight-up weird, sexy, and implausible.

Why is it that female fantasies are such a source of derision and fear? The male species is allowed all manner of violent, creepy, ludicrous and degrading movie tropes, and while we may not embrace them as high art, no one questions them seriously as entertainment, even when sometimes we probably should. (Violent imagery is, after all, associated with violent behavior.) You want to saw someone in half or put their head in a vice? Showcase naked strippers as a fake plot device? Pair a beautiful and successful career woman with a slovenly, unemployed man? Pretend you are Wolverine? Go right ahead. We know you can’t really be serious. But watch a tender wedding night between a virginal, undead superhero and his teenage, human bride, and the scolds come out in force. Are parents worried that their teenage daughter actually wants to be impregnated by a 100-year-old vampire who can crush a headboard with his hands (and perform an emergency C-section with his teeth)?

Maybe part of the reason critics deplore these movies is not only because they are so unfamiliar with kooky heterosexual female fantasies but also because they don’t really like what these fantasies say about men.

The discomfiting reality of the Twilight phenomenon is the way it strips off the veneer of détente between the sexes. For all the progress we promised our daughters, women’s bodily experiences mark them in ways not only unimaginable, but also uninteresting and even repulsive, to men. When was the last time (or only time) you saw a movie that featured menstruation?

If this offends you, take a number. Women have long endured men’s insulting and unhinged fantasies. Just lie back and enjoy the estrogen drip.

Read the rest of the article here at the source. It’s a fantastic read. And answer this question – how do you deal with Twilight haters when the discussion pops up?

Twilight Poison World Premiere After Party Pictures

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

After seeing Breaking Dawn for the first time at the World Premiere, I attended the afterparty with guests, cast and crew. Here are some pictures of the beautiful venue, which was to die for. The theme was, of course, the wedding and the honeymoon, so the decorations looked exactly like the ones in the movie to the smallest detail, including the tables and centerpieces, the altar and the flowers, the ceremony, and even the beach in Isle Esme. Absolutely gorgeous.

I also had the chance to hang out with Kellan Lutz and Michael Welch, who were awesome as always. So sweet, humble and lovely to all guests. Mike kept his word and wore a bowtie to the premiere, by the way.

Some of the tables had chess boards – white and red pieces – and there was even a replica of the wedding cake. Next to the cake, there were some samples of the real cake, which was lemon. Delicious. Everyone seemed to be having an great time, especially the cast. The music and the food were fantastic, and dancefloor was always crowded. On the dancefloor, Melissa Rosenberg was having a blast with her family, who seemed to be celebrating what was also her night. Kellan Lutz took pictures with everyone who asked, and basically hung out with the fans the entire time. I had the chance to briefly talk to Rob’s father before leaving the party (the Pattinsons were the last to leave!) which was a wonderful moment. He was nice and smiley to everyone who recognized him and shook his hand, after waving hello to me I asked him if he enjoyed the movie to which he answered, “of course! Very exciting!” He seemed to be very pleased and satisfied with the final product. Luckily, there were only a few fans approaching him, and everybody was polite enough to not bother him for pictures.
