Edi Gathegi in X Men: First Class

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Edi Gathegi’s return to the big screen is great! He plays the role of Darwin (real name Armando Muñoz), as in “Darwin the Evolving Boy”. He’s a mutant rejected by his mother whose power is to adapt to every condition known to man. He’s extremely intelligent, he can breathe underwater, if he jumps off a building he can bounce back, to name a few examples.
Later in X-Men many interesting things happen to Darwin. He’s quite the character!

Glad to see Edi back and in such a highly anticipated project!

Edi Gathegi Joins X-Men First Class

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

There were rumors of Taylor Lautner joining X-Men: First Class for the role of young Wolverine. Many people dismissed the rumors, and even actor Hugh Jackman didn’t seem too convinced, however producer Bryan Singer admitted he did approach Taylor for the role, but sadly he was not available for it beacuse of his other movies Abduction, Breaking Dawn and Stretch Armstrong. Now according to Deadline, a Twilight cast member is joining the X-Men: Edi Gathegi!

Edi Gathegi, who played a chillingly evil vampire in Twilight and Twilight Saga: New Moon, is joining X-Men: First Class in the role of Darwin. That character, the first bi-racial mutant, has the power of “reactive evolution,” which allows him to adapt to any situation or environment. Plunged underwater, he’ll grow gills, he’ll gain night vision in pitch black and his skin grows fire retardant when burned.

This is what Darwin looks like:

Badass, right?

This movie is full of equally badass actors: James McAvoy to play Xavier, Michael Fassbender to play Magneto, Alice Eve as Emma Frost, Nicholas Hoult to play Beast, Jennifer Lawrence to play Mystique, Caleb Landry Jones to play Banshee and Lucas Till to play Havoc, and Kevin Bacon as playing the villain.

Cannot wait for this. Congrats, Edi!

Twi-stars talks about New Moon.

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

OntheRedCarpet.com has a new interview with Peter Facinelli, Kellan Lutz and Edi Gathegi.

And even though the Cullen clan is not the focus of New Moon, it doesn’t mean you will not be seeing them in parts of the latest film. OnTheRedCarpet.com spoke with three of the irresistible vampires to get their take on New Moon, and the inside scoop on some of the characters.

Peter Facinelli (Dr. Carlyle Cullen) says there will be a lot of eye candy for the female viewers to sink their teeth into this time around.

“The werewolves have taken over Vancouver. You have all of these new cast members who are really buff, good looking Native American guys. They are running around everywhere,” said Peter.

Most of Twilight was shot in Oregon and Washington. In New Moon the cast and crew found themselves in a new location with a new director. The production was taken to Vancouver, Canada and Chris Weitz was handed the keys to the new Twilight universe. Many fans feared that the male director might not be able to connect with the whirlwind romance between Bella and Edward, but cast members say Chris gets it.

“New Moon is going to be fantastic. Chris Weitz knows what he is doing and what he is looking for. He is an actor’s director. I have seen parts of it already and people will be very happy,” said Edi Gathegi, Laurent.

Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen) compares the production of New Moon to a well-oiled machine. He says that the cast and crew had a great time working on the film.

“Nothing on New Moon has been crazy. For the actors it has been easy. We got to try new things with our characters which was great. I have to say that I like the New Moon screenplay better than Twilight. And it was really cool to see how Rob was incorporated into the screenplay,” said Kellan.

The actors also got to try new stunts. Kellan said jokingly that his biggest stunt of New Moon was picking up Kristen Stewart (Bella). He made sure to say at the end of the interview that she is the lightest girl he has ever held and that she made his job easy on the Vancouver set.
