The stars talk about being stalked by paparazzi

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

MTV writes:

A year ago, they were young actors with few credits, traveling to Portland to shoot a low-budget vampire film with an indie director. This week, they’re returning to Vancouver as A-listers, filming one of the most eagerly anticipated sequels of the year.

Hollywood has finally taken notice of the stars of “Twilight” — and so have the dreaded paparazzi.

Watch the video below:

P.s. Look at Kellan. During the whole clip he’s holding a little girl in the most adorable way. Could he be any cutter? Kellan, you’re such a teddy bear in real life.

Catherine Hardwicke and Edi Gathegi go back to high school

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Catherine Hardwicke and Edi Gathegi went back to highscool to promote the book ‘Twilight Director’s Notebook: The Story of How We Made the Movie.’. Here’s the full article thanks to MTV.com:

On a random Tuesday at Santa Monica High School, groups of teenagers shuffle into the auditorium and find their seats. It’s the type of moment that plays out every day across schools nationwide, but something is different: These students wear black T-shirts, point their cell phone cameras toward the stage and hold up signs declaring their love for Edward Cullen.

They’ve assembled on this day to study a very special curriculum — within moments, they erupt in cheers for professors Catherine Hardwicke and Edi Gathegi.

“I’ve been really good,” beamed Hardwicke. We caught up with her for the first time in months, moments before a launch event for her “Twilight Director’s Notebook: The Story of How We Made the Movie.” “It’s been fun to see all the response to ‘Twilight,’ and the excitement and everything — there’s a lot of ‘Twilight’ love.”

“We’re here to promote her book,” explained Gathegi, excited to reunite with his “Twilight” director. “It’s going to be a book signing, she is going to direct a couple of scenes from the movie, there is going to be a band that’s gonna play. I’m emceeing the entire event. We’re just gonna have a good time.”

When we visited the “Twilight” set a year ago and interviewed Hardwicke, the former production designer made frequent reference to “my little journal book,” which never left her side. Soon after the film became a massive hit, Hardwicke was asked by Stephenie Meyer’s publisher if she wanted to develop the book and now every Twilighter can buy their own copy.

“I think it’s kind of cool,” grinned Hardwicke, holding the colorful photo-and-design-filled tome in her hand. “I was so excited to put in all the neat little drawings that I did, and other people did [too] like our costume designer. And little weird notes and stuff.”

Scattered throughout the pages are tips from Hardwicke to prospective filmmakers, photos of her scouting locations (and re-creating scenes as Bella), and sketches of how the characters were supposed to look — drawn before the actors were even cast.

“That looks like Billy Dee Williams right there,” marveled Gathegi, flipping through the book and finding an early sketch of his character minus the now-signature hairstyle. “This is the original Laurent. I think Catherine and I both came up with the dreadlock idea, because I had always wanted to have dreads and I thought it would be a cool, sexy, different look.”

“There were a lot of funny moments on the movie,” Hardwicke explained, pointing out irreverent parts in the book about selling Kristen Stewart’s shirt on eBay, visiting the real-life Forks Coffee Shop, or how to microwave Swiss cheese and make your own vampire flesh. “We tried to put some of the quirkier items in here.”

After Hardwicke and Gathegi made their way through the evening’s concert and Q&A, it was time for Tuesday’s event at Santa Monica High School to get quirky. Some lucky students were brought onstage, and Hardwicke directed them in the scene from “Twilight” where evil vampires Laurent, James and Victoria take down Waylon Forge at the boathouse — as an added bonus, Hardwicke surprised the crowd with actor Ned Bellamy, who was more than happy to re-create his death.

“You guys know exactly the motivation of these vampires,” Hardwicke explained to her young actors. “They want some yummy food, and this guy looks pretty good to them.”

“I couldn’t stop laughing,” Gathegi said of the performance. “It was just so bizarre to see somebody imitating a scene that I was in. … He looks nothing like me. But he was actually really good!”

Edi Gathegi says New Moon will be a lot more active

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

On a new interview for MTV, Edi Gathegi discussed New Moon.

Edi Gathegi recently reunited with his “Twilight” co-stars in Vancouver, kicking off the lengthy process of shooting the highly anticipated sequel “New Moon.” But before he left, he stopped by the MTV studio to fill us in on some top-secret script details, what it’s like to pump iron with Taylor Lautner and what we can expect next from the vampire Laurent.

“I’m going up to Vancouver for some preproduction stuff and rehearsals. The entire cast is going to be up there,” said the actor, who recently starred in “My Bloody Valentine 3D,” making him the first “Twilight” star to have a hit film follow-up (there’s already talk of Gathegi returning in a sequel). “We’re going to be doing a whole bunch of fun stuff.

“I’ve read the script — it’s very good,” Gathegi explained, praising the talents of returning screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg. Comparing the script to Stephenie Meyer’s 563-page novel, he said, “It’s a lot more active — in the best possible way — than I thought it was going to be.”

Although the novel is peppered with failed romance, depression and thoughts of suicide, Gathegi insisted that the second story is better because anticipation becomes reality. “I’m actually one of the people that think that ‘New Moon’ is pretty active. There’s a fraction of people who think it’s slow because [Edward Cullen] is gone for a long time, and [Bella] is going through depression — but I think it’s more active than ‘Twilight,’ ” he explained. “In ‘Twilight,’ it’s the anticipation every day. The anticipation of ‘What is he?’ And then you discover what he is. ‘New Moon,’ I think, has a little more forward movement; which is great for a movie.

“And I love what I get to do in it,” he said with a wicked grin. “I definitely get to sink my teeth into something.”

Gathegi also loves the recent activity of co-star Taylor Lautner — one of his best friends on the “Twilight” cast. When Lautner’s youthful appearance presented him with a possible exile from “New Moon,” the two actors pledged to hit the gym together — and the results have spoken for themselves.

“He does not let up. I ask, ‘What do we do?’ [and he replies] ‘Everything! The whole routine,’ ” Gathegi said of their regimen. “I could say that he’s definitely one of the most committed people that I have ever seen at the gym. I think I might have been like him when I was younger — I go off and on, even right now. This kid just stays at the focus point.

“[Lautner] does free-weights: bi’s, tri’s, shoulders, legs,” Gathegi marveled. “He’s ready [to play the older Jacob Black]. His job depends on it, and he has to be this way and get bigger for the rest of the series. I mean, this kid is incredible!”

The biggest news for Gathegi these days, however, is that the movie version of Laurent won’t go down without a fight. “[In the novel] they talk about me getting chased and destroyed by the werewolves — and in the movie, we’ll see what they have me do,” he revealed cryptically. “We might show it.”

Robert’s next movie on cable in April!

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

howtobe

MTV.com is letting us know the upcoming projects of some of the Twilight actors. One of the best news is that How to be, a film that Robert Pattinson fans have been waiting to see for years now will finally be released for cable!

5. Kristen Stewart in “The Cake Eaters”
In this sweet, tiny little film, KStew steals the show as Georgia Kaminski, a terminally ill teen hoping to find love while grappling with the nerve-system-attacking disease Friedreich’s ataxia. The potential pitfalls are obvious, as Stewart slurs her speech, limps around and depends on others to help her maneuver. But the talented actress sheds light on the affliction, giving a performance that is tender, sweet and — most disarmingly — sexy.

Where to See It: The movie opens in limited release March 13.

4. Edi Gathegi on “Life on Mars”
Sadly, this trippy, time-traveling cop drama was recently canceled. Its short life, however, gave us a great cameo by the man Twilighters know as Laurent. Stepping in for a flashback of an older character, Gathegi’s performance built to a big payoff — basically, he had to make the audience care for his character as much as the show’s star did. In a brief amount of time, the endearing Gathegi brought the goods.

Where to See It: Pray that the episode, titled “Things to Do in New York When You’re Dead,” gets rerun — or that season one eventually gets a DVD release.

3. Robert Pattinson in “How to Be”
In the months since RPattz’s career explosion, this tiny independent film has become a phenomenon. Filmed in early 2007, the flick stars Rob as a young musician seeking wisdom from a self-help guru — and “Twilight” fans have been traveling hundreds of miles for its current cinema tour. “Cinequest we just did; it went really well,” producer Justin Kelly said of a recent date at a San Jose film festival. “It’s insane; people fly across three states to see it. It’s fantastic.”

Where to See It: The Independent Film Channel’s Festival Direct service will make the film available April 29 on cable providers Bright House, Cablevision, Charter, Comcast, Cox, Insight and Time Warner. “We’re supporting IFC’s release with the cinema tour,” Kelly explained.

2. Billy Burke on “The Closer”
If you’re like me, you see “Matlock,” “Columbo” and “Monk” and wonder: What’s the point of watching if the star always catches the criminal? After years of suffering in silence through my wife’s “Closer” obsession, I was recently rewarded by a tour-de-force cameo from Burke. Bella Swan’s father broke out as Philip Stroh, a smooth-talking lawyer who might be in cahoots with his murderer/rapist client. By the end of the episode, Burke had shown tremendous range and walked away with a devilish glee — a performance that has haunted Kyra Sedgwick’s homicide chief ever since.

Where to See It: The episode, titled “Power of Attorney,” can be found on TNT’s Web site.

1. Anna Kendrick in “Rocket Science”
Admittedly, it might be the most visible performance out of the five listed here. Still, Twilighters who haven’t seen Kendrick’s breakout performance in this 2007 indie flick need to put down their copy of Kristen Stewart’s unauthorized biography and get to Blockbuster immediately. Cast as fast-talking debate queen Ginny Ryerson, Kendrick is nothing short of a revelation.

Where to See It: On DVD.

Personally, I really recommend Rocket Science with Anna Kendrick. It’s a very sweet and funny movie. And her performance is brilliant!

Edi Gathegi is ready for New Moon

Friday, January 9th, 2009

ShockTillYouDrop brings this new article about Edi Gathegi, Twilight’s Laurent.

There’s no slowing down actor Edi Gathegi. In November, he was riding the press wave promoting his vampiric role in Twilight. This month it’s My Bloody Valentine 3D where you’ll find him playing a deputy wondering if murderer Harry Warden has returned to the town of Harmony.

On the red carpet for that film last night, Gathegi told us he’s currently shooting a pilot, then it’s on to the Twilight follow-up New Moon, the entry populated by vampires and werewolves.

I get to play another bad guy,” he grinned, to which we reply: Another? “Well, the same guy [Laurent] but I get to reprise the badness. In the first book I’m bad but good. In the next one, I’m bad. We start shooting in a few months.

Look for Gathegi in My Bloody Valentine 3D and see if he survives the massacre when the films opens in theaters January 16th.

‘Twilight’ Cast: What Will They Be Up To In 2009?

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Larry Carroll has written a new article on the upcoming projects of all the Twilight stars for 2009. It’s gonna be a very busy year for most of them!

10. “My Bloody Valentine 3-D”
It’s based on an underground horror classic, features part-time vampire Edi Gathegi, and boasts the tagline: “Nothing says ‘date movie’ like a 3-D ride to hell!” Check out our bloody exclusive clip from the flick about a deranged coal miner hunting down teenage victims, and imagine that pickax coming at you in a darkened theater with those 3-D glasses on. This January 16 release feels like a good old-fashioned guilty pleasure, and that’s no miner feat.

9. “Shrink”
If there’s one thing Twilighters love (well, besides black T-shirts), it’s Miss Ashley Greene. Which is most likely the reason I began receiving e-mails within hours of her film “Shrink” being chosen for this year’s Sundance, asking what this under-the-radar flick is all about. Well, the film features Greene alongside Kevin Spacey, Keke Palmer, Robin Williams and “The Ruins” star Laura Ramsey, telling the story of a psychiatrist-to-the-stars (Spacey) who attempts to help a troubled teen girl. When the shrink discovers that she is entranced by the very same Hollywood figures whose flaws he knows so intimately, he sees the worlds of reality and fantasy colliding with him in the middle. Check out the MTV Movies Blog for Ashley’s thoughts on the movie, as well as her plans to attend Sundance — and stay tuned, as we’ll be sure to bring you full coverage of “Shrink” during the festival later this month.

8. “The Unborn”
Five words why Twilighters will see this ghost movie: Cam Gigandet in his undies. Four words on why their boyfriends will, too: Odette Yustman in hers. And the allure for everyone else? It’s a freaky flick boasting icky bugs, creepy kids and a horrific scene with the glory hole from hell. Those looking forward to Cam playing a kind, sympathetic boyfriend might not want to watch this clip, but we can all look forward to seeing him alongside Gary Oldman, Meagan Good and the rest of this impressive cast when “The Unborn” haunts theaters January 9.

7. “Dread”
Last night I was watching Comedy Central at midnight, and a God-awful movie called “Senior Skip Day” came on, starring a bunch of bad actors trying too hard to meld “Ferris Bueller” with “American Pie,” a bloated Tara Reid and Jackson Rathbone? Even as a half-baked stoner in that straight-to-video crapfest, the young star otherwise known as Jasper Hale was hard to look away from. There’s something very watchable about the charismatic Rathbone, which is why we’re eager to see “Dread,” a Clive Barker horror flick that marks his first leading-man role. It sounds like it’ll be a terrifying film to watch — and “Dread” doesn’t even need a Tara Reid cameo.

6. “Adventureland”
The sort of sweet-sounding movie that mainstream Hollywood rarely makes anymore, it’s the follow-up from the director of “Superbad” (Greg Mottola), and features an impressive cast. Backing up one Miss Kristin Stewart is “The Squid and the Whale” star Jesse Eisenberg, as well as Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Ryan Reynolds and other notables. Set in 1987, the flick tells the story of a college grad (Eisenberg) planning to travel around Europe, until his parents reveal that they can no longer fund his trip. Forced to instead spend the summer working at a low-rent amusement park, he’s living a miserable existence of cotton candy and crying kids — until he falls in love with an ’80s chick who looks a lot like Bella Swan. “Adventureland” was also recently picked for Sundance, so you can bet we’ll be all over it when we hit Utah later this month.

5. “Up in the Air”
Ever since we broke the news about this project back in the day, we’ve been eager to see what one of our favorite directors, Jason Reitman, has in store. Then came news that the too-sweet-for-words Anna Kendrick landed the much-contested lead role, starring opposite George Clooney. Based on the 2001 novel of the same name, “Up in the Air” tells the story of a business traveler on a quest to land a million frequent-flyer miles; advance buzz is already hyping up the film’s awards-season hopes, and we’re wondering if Kendrick could be in for an Ellen Page-in-”Juno”-like breakout. Thundercats are go!

4. “Pandorum”
Maybe it’s because the plot sounds a bit like “Sunshine.” Perhaps it’s because it co-stars faves like Ben Foster, Dennis Quaid and Norman Reedus. Or, most likely, it’s because it’ll feature Cam Gigandet in outer space! Regardless, the first couple photos from “Pandorum” got us even more excited about the flick, which the artist formerly known as James the killer vampire describes thusly: “It’s basically this group of people who are stuck on a spaceship that has left Earth and won’t be going back, and things go horribly wrong.” When the movie hits theaters September 9, we’ll be sure to save you a seat.

3. “Welcome to the Rileys”
If Bella Swan really became a stripper, she’d most likely fall off the stage and leave a trail of dollar bills fluttering through the air. But Kristen Stewart is one of the most beautiful young actresses in Hollywood, and her dancing skills have already been displayed in films like “The Golden Handkerchief” and “What Just Happened?” Now, the daring 18-year-old star is putting the finishing touches on “Welcome to the Rileys” opposite James Gandolfini, playing a troubled exotic dancer who helps bring a couple back together after the death of their daughter. If any of the “Twilight” stars have an Oscar in their future, our money is on it being KStew.

2. “Little Ashes”
We know him as Spunk Ransom, we know him as RPattz, and in 2008 we came to know Robert Pattinson as a hair-raising, riot-causing international superstar. Now, the in-demand actor has several projects in the works, but none are more anticipated than “Little Ashes,” an indie flick about surrealist artist Salvador Dalí. Thankfully, the movie looks much better than Rob’s mustache, and advance buzz is building. Soon enough, the world will know if RPattz is truly a wunderkind or a one-hit wonder.

1. “New Moon”
It’s got a new director, a super-fast turnaround time, and several key casting decisions yet to be made. But, to borrow a phrase from Eric Yorkie: Chillax! Stephenie Meyer has already given her thumbs-up to the sequel, scripted by returning screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, and everybody from Rob and Kristen to Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene and Peter Facinelli are in like Flynn. Not only is the November 20 release a no-brainer for the most anticipated “Twilight”-related movie of 2009, but to millions of die-hard fans, it’s the single most anticipated flick of the year. Better keep those Tuesdays open, folks.

So, excluding New Moon, which of these movies are you dying to see? Personally I can’t wait for Little Ashes. I know about this movie since before I knew about the Twilight movie, talk about a long time. And I’m also very intrigued by Anna Kendrick’s new project with George Clooney, she’s a really good actress and I recommend watching Rocket Science. And of course, anything by Kristen. I seriously predict she’s gonna be huge one day.

Twilight press junket interviews

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Here’s a video of Robert reading from Twilight, along with interviews with the cast and director of the movie:

And here’s an interview for Los 40 Principales (Spain) with Cam Gigandet and Kristen Stewart while they visited Madrid in October. Pretty long interview and one of the few interview with Cam:
