Chris Weitz had previously shared some New Moon secrets for the release of the movie. Now for the release of the DVD he released 5 new secrets to
MTV.com:
Going for the Gold: In “Twilight,” RPattz and the rest of his vegetarian vampire cohorts have gold-colored eyes as a result of abstaining from consuming human blood. For “New Moon,” the vamps’ eyes were clearly more golden. Why’d Weitz have his actors switch to brighter contact lenses?
“It’s a more noticeable gold,” Weitz said. “I thought that in the first film they hadn’t popped quite enough and I wanted to have that sense of otherworldliness carry through more.”
The Silent Vampire: Actress Rachelle Lefevre was notoriously replaced in her role as the vampire Victoria following “New Moon,” with Bryce Dallas Howard taking over the part for “Eclipse.” In “New Moon,” Lefevre is seen but does not speak. Is there a connection between her lack of lines and what happened with the casting decision?
“It wasn’t so much that,” Weitz said. “There was a dialogue scene with her, and eventually that will show up whenever they release deleted scenes. It was one of those scenes that, when you look back at it, it’s kind of a surplus to the whole storytelling requirement of the movie. So there was no ill intent there. I wrote Rachelle and explained why that scene didn’t end up in the film, and in terms of filmmaking I can’t regret it, although I do regret it very much if it hurt Rachelle’s feelings.”
Why So Torn Up, Edward?: At one point in the film, Pattinson’s Edward Cullen appears in a ripped T-shirt, but we never learn why. So … what the heck happened?
“What it’s supposed to be is that he’s essentially been wearing the same clothes for several months, and that eventually they’ve just worn out because, as you I’m sure know, his body is like stone. So he must’ve rubbed up against something and it ripped,” Weitz said.
Our Lord?: In its Italian-set portions, “New Moon” features a significant amount of religious iconography, and Edward certainly suffers a great deal. Is he supposed to be a Christ figure?
“I think that he is in a sense he’s doomed to suffer eternally,” Weitz said. “He actually thinks of himself as a damned figure, but he’s wrong about that. So in some senses, yeah, he is a martyr figure.”
Black Eyes: In Stephenie Meyer’s book, Edward’s eyes go black in Italy. Why don’t his eyes turn in the film?
“It’s because I screwed up!” Weitz admitted.
Really? He just forgot?
“Well, yeah, I kinda did,” he said. “Well, there are two reasons. One is that I messed up. The other reason is that I actually thought that onscreen it would be quite bizarre to see his eyes go completely black, and that it would be more satisfying and less jarring to have that moment of reunion be a reunion with revivified Edward. But probably, the long and the short of it, there are many details that I did not drop the ball on, and there are some that I did.”
Never really thought of the clothes being ripped by his stone body. It’s one of those obvious things that you never think of, isn’t it?

Yesterday we posted an interview in which Chris Weitz reveals regretting not cutting the scene in New Moon when we see Edward skipping in the forest with vampire Bella. In a new interview with HitFix.com he talked more about this scene and how he could’ve done it differently.
“I think it could have been less than an Arcadian fairy tale running through the foresty movement and more of an abstract at Kristen flash on her face,” Weitz says of what he would have changed. “That would have avoided laughter, which wasn’t only heard at the premiere where there are cynics and jaded Hollywood types, but the most packed fan screenings.”
Don’t feel bad, Chris. The scene itself wasn’t a bad idea, just the whole… awkward running, maybe, what kind of ruined it for some people
. I actually liked how vampire Bella looked and how Edward kept staring at her, kind of amazed at her new vampire state. But yes, we could’ve done without the skipping

From the Museum of Boston website:
Depicting the snarl of a werewolf, the sparkling skin of a vampire, or a handsome apparition were all in a day’s work for the visual effects supervisors who worked on The Twilight Saga: New Moon. These masters of technology were charged with bringing the latest movie installment of Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling novel to the big screen.
Matt Jacobs and his team at Tippett Studio created New Moon’s realistic-looking wolves with computer-generated imagery (CGI), a process that included getting up close and personal with fanged timberwolves at a California preserve in order to study their looks, movements, and behavior. The task of creating most of the other visual effects in the film, including the diamond-like shimmering of vampire skin coming into contact with sunlight, fell to Eric Pascarelli and his team at Prime Focus VFX. The source of their inspiration? Greek Thassos marble.
With behind-the-scenes stories and film clips demonstrating the process, these masters of technology, both from award-winning visual effects studios in California, illustrate how creativity and science combine to convey emotion, create drama, and bring New Moon to life.
Seating is limited. Seating passes are available to the general public in the Museum lobby beginning at 5:45 p.m. on the evening of the program; first come, first served. Museum members may reserve a limited number of seating passes in advance by calling between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday the week of the program only: 617-589-3169.

Another limited edition New Moon box that you can consider when you buy your DVD. This one is exclusively for the UK:
This limited edition presentation box is beautifully finished in luxurious black PU leather with gold foil text and scrolling and a red velveteen inner with mirror. It has plenty of space to store all your treasured Twilight Saga possessions and also doubles up as a great vanity case. You can take it with you or keep it in pride of place at home.
Each exclusively numbered case contains your very own copy of the New Moon double disc packed full of extras. With only 5,000 in existence (exclusive to UK) it’s a must have for any Twilight fan.
It’s important to note that it only includes one disc and it costs £64.99, so that probably means no extras like behind the scenes videos, deleted scenes, music videos and other material. In my opinion, you should find an edition that includes a second disc with lots of extras. Those are always fun!

Crunch Gear has some information on that awesome Japanese special edition box of New Moon we showed you last week. Apparently, the box includes a movie on microSD.
The so-called New Moon / Twilight Saga Premium Box – “Always” Edition will be limited to just 2,000 units and includes:
* New Moon movie DVD (130 min.)* Special features DVD (170 min.)
* New Moon photo cards
* A photo stand
* Mini stickers/ film stripes
* A microSD card containing Twilight
The DVDs will be bilingual (English and Japanese) and region 2-coded, meaning you’ll need a region-free player to view them. Needless to say the real collector’s item here is the microSD card, which lets you watch the complete first movie (Twilight) on your cell phone (the Japanese do that sometimes).
But beware, as that movie will probably be dubbed in Japanese (unclear at this point). And you’ll probably need a special, 1Seg TV-enabled phone to use the card.
If all of these factors and the high price ($90) don’t scare you, I suggest contacting import/export specialist CD Japan if you want to pre-order the box (they’re listing it already). It will go on sale in Japan on March 26.
