Video: Dakota and Kristen Talk Shooting ‘Runaways’ and ‘Twilight’ In A Row
Monday, March 15th, 2010In this video the girls talk about going from hating each other in New Moon, toloving each other in The Runaways, to hating each other again in Eclipse.
‘It took me a take or two to get used to it,’ Fanning says of playing best friends then enemies with Kristen Stewart. Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart have made three films together — from “New Moon” to their rocking girl-power flick “The Runaways” and then back to “The Twilight Saga” for “Eclipse” — and shooting the string of movies took some adjusting on their part. The three flicks have very different tones. Plus, Stewart and Fanning are mortal enemies in “Twilight” but best friends in “The Runaways.”
“It’s really funny, ’cause we did ‘New Moon’ before ['The Runaways'], and … we got so used to seeing each other like Joan [Jett played by Stewart] and Cherie [Currie played by Fanning] in those costumes,” Fanning said. “Her hair was short, and I had the wig on. And [then we] did ‘Eclipse.’ ”
While having to remember if they hated or loved each other on set was one of the difficulties, Stewart said Fanning had another big problem: “She hated when I cut my hair.”
Fanning got really upset when Stewart lost her long locks for Jett’s short, spiky cut. “I think Dakota was more emotional than I was, to be honest,” Stewart recalled. “She, like, almost cried when I cut my hair. It was something I needed to do. I needed to feel the sweat coming down my face and, like, I needed to be able to touch it. I just needed to do it.”
Fanning remembers the day vividly. “I almost cried. And then we did ‘Eclipse’ after, and it was so weird being on that set and saying, like, different things to each other. It took me a little bit. It took me a take or two to get used to it.”

Director Chris Weitz Reveals Five Secrets About The Film
Friday, March 5th, 2010Chris Weitz had previously shared some New Moon secrets for the release of the movie. Now for the release of the DVD he released 5 new secrets to
MTV.com:
Going for the Gold: In “Twilight,” RPattz and the rest of his vegetarian vampire cohorts have gold-colored eyes as a result of abstaining from consuming human blood. For “New Moon,” the vamps’ eyes were clearly more golden. Why’d Weitz have his actors switch to brighter contact lenses?
“It’s a more noticeable gold,” Weitz said. “I thought that in the first film they hadn’t popped quite enough and I wanted to have that sense of otherworldliness carry through more.”
The Silent Vampire: Actress Rachelle Lefevre was notoriously replaced in her role as the vampire Victoria following “New Moon,” with Bryce Dallas Howard taking over the part for “Eclipse.” In “New Moon,” Lefevre is seen but does not speak. Is there a connection between her lack of lines and what happened with the casting decision?
“It wasn’t so much that,” Weitz said. “There was a dialogue scene with her, and eventually that will show up whenever they release deleted scenes. It was one of those scenes that, when you look back at it, it’s kind of a surplus to the whole storytelling requirement of the movie. So there was no ill intent there. I wrote Rachelle and explained why that scene didn’t end up in the film, and in terms of filmmaking I can’t regret it, although I do regret it very much if it hurt Rachelle’s feelings.”
Why So Torn Up, Edward?: At one point in the film, Pattinson’s Edward Cullen appears in a ripped T-shirt, but we never learn why. So … what the heck happened?
“What it’s supposed to be is that he’s essentially been wearing the same clothes for several months, and that eventually they’ve just worn out because, as you I’m sure know, his body is like stone. So he must’ve rubbed up against something and it ripped,” Weitz said.
Our Lord?: In its Italian-set portions, “New Moon” features a significant amount of religious iconography, and Edward certainly suffers a great deal. Is he supposed to be a Christ figure?
“I think that he is in a sense he’s doomed to suffer eternally,” Weitz said. “He actually thinks of himself as a damned figure, but he’s wrong about that. So in some senses, yeah, he is a martyr figure.”
Black Eyes: In Stephenie Meyer’s book, Edward’s eyes go black in Italy. Why don’t his eyes turn in the film?
“It’s because I screwed up!” Weitz admitted.
Really? He just forgot?
“Well, yeah, I kinda did,” he said. “Well, there are two reasons. One is that I messed up. The other reason is that I actually thought that onscreen it would be quite bizarre to see his eyes go completely black, and that it would be more satisfying and less jarring to have that moment of reunion be a reunion with revivified Edward. But probably, the long and the short of it, there are many details that I did not drop the ball on, and there are some that I did.”
Never really thought of the clothes being ripped by his stone body. It’s one of those obvious things that you never think of, isn’t it?
Chris Weitz reveals his biggest regret directing ‘New Moon’ to HitFix.com
Friday, March 5th, 2010
Yesterday we posted an interview in which Chris Weitz reveals regretting not cutting the scene in New Moon when we see Edward skipping in the forest with vampire Bella. In a new interview with HitFix.com he talked more about this scene and how he could’ve done it differently.
“I think it could have been less than an Arcadian fairy tale running through the foresty movement and more of an abstract at Kristen flash on her face,” Weitz says of what he would have changed. “That would have avoided laughter, which wasn’t only heard at the premiere where there are cynics and jaded Hollywood types, but the most packed fan screenings.”
Don’t feel bad, Chris. The scene itself wasn’t a bad idea, just the whole… awkward running, maybe, what kind of ruined it for some people
. I actually liked how vampire Bella looked and how Edward kept staring at her, kind of amazed at her new vampire state. But yes, we could’ve done without the skipping
