Yesterday E! Online published an article talking about an alleged feud between Stephenie and Summit Entertainment over their disagreement in how to adapt Breaking Dawn to the big screen. Several entertainment sites picked the article up, as did many fansites. According to E!’s article, Stephenie doesn’t want Breaking Dawn to be made into two separate films, and since she “calls all the shots” (E!’s actual words) this was making the adaptation of the movie very difficult to Summit.
We decided not to post the article because 1) E! publishes a lot of made up drama and gossip to stir things up and we like to stay away from that on our site, 2) It was a little funny how this article appeared on E! Online just hours before the LA Times article with the producer’s new quotes on the current status of Breaking Dawn. What’s more important? Posting the words of the people who are in the know and not confuse the fans with blogger’s gossip.
Thankfully, Stephenie doesn’t like to remain quiet for very long when there’s rumors and gossip, so she took on her official blog and stated the following:
Just a quick note on the subject of the Breaking Dawn film: there is no drama over whether the book should be one movie or two. My personal feeling is that it would be very difficult to cram the whole story into one movie (as I’ve said in many interviews previous to this), but if a great way of doing that surfaces, I’m all for it. Two or one, whichever way fits the story best is fine by me, and everyone I’ve spoken with at Summit seems to feel the same way. We’re all excited to move forward on this, and we are slowly and surely getting there. I know people are anxious for news, and so sometimes gossip get fabricated to stir things up, but there’s no basis to this particular story.
