Rob Talks to Firenze Magazine + Montepulciano Nostalgia

Sunday, July 1st, 2012

Although David Cronenberg, director of Cosmopolis, calls Twilight a “hiccup” in Robert Pattinson’s career, he praises his acting abilities in a new interview with Firenze magazine.

“Robert is an amazing actor, who before that film had already did challenging movies. He became popular against his will.”

Twilight was also the film that made Pattinson explore Tuscany. The most beautiful Tuscany, Montepulciano and the Val d’Orcia. And in Montepulciano, in fact, that in 2009 Pattinson did New Moon, the second film in the Twilight saga. To tell the truth, those scenes in the novel took place in Volterra, not too many miles away. But the production found in Montepulciano a most impressive set – a town that had been set of the international film Dream of a midsummer night with Kevin Kline, and some scenes of Andrej Tarkovsky Nostalgia and The English Patient by Anthony Minghella. And in Montepulciano flashed the first real kiss, outside the set, between Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, Bella (Beautiful her name means and beautiful she is too) in the movie. A love story that still continues.

At Cannes Pattinson skated over the subject, Kristen Stewart is there, with another film, On the Road by Walter Salles. And he says diplomatically: “Yes, I saw the film, it is curious because there is a lot of people I know in it…”

His popularity gives him security? And having played the role in Cosmopolis?
Rob: Not at all! Before shooting a movie, I felt like I was going to have a heart attack. I was perpetually insecure. For days, I stayed at the hotel asking myself how I should play the character, fearing the most complete failure, until David came to visit me, the weekend before the first take.

And what did Cronenberg say to you?
Rob: He simply said : don’t worry. He said: do not think about anything, just pronounce the words you have learned, and everything will be fine. And basically, he was right.

How much you feel the responsibility of a role before you start filming?
Rob: Very much, I really love the words that I have to say , I feel the rhythm of the character. Sometimes as actors, we think we are both good actors and ‘improve’ a screenplay. Well, I think that’s the moment when we’re stupid. There’s just nothing to improve, in a screenplay.

How hard is it to live if you are Robert Pattinson?
Rob: I know I’m privileged, but I also know that there are problems even for someone like me. For example, to combine work and private life is very difficult. I couldn’t easily go out and have fun without creating problems for me and others. But I do not mind this, I was never a social person, in any case. And then, all this mythology, I know it’s fake, almost everyone who think I am a Myth will be bored after two hours with me!

Cronenberg , instead, is not bored to stay with him. Between the two there was quite a ” love at first sight”. David seems to have found the ideal interpreter, Robert, and for him, David is a sort of spirit guide who will accompany him out of the stagnant sea of easy teenager glory. And together, they willmake another movie:

“Yes, we will do another movie together, although I don’t know when we will start shooting,” says Robert.

Chris Weitz Tweet Round Up

Monday, March 28th, 2011

Here’s the latest round of tweets from Mr. Chris Weitz. As you know, he tweets a lot everyday, so we put together his best tweets of the past few days in case you missed them and get lost in his feed. We appreciate Chris’ patience and his honesty is definitely his best quality, as always. And his sense of humor just makes his feed even better!

Onto the best tweets.

A fan asked him about how in New Moon the camera pans into a painting to tell a story, much like in Citizen Kane the camera pan into a picture for a flashback scene. Here’s the comparison in question:

Chris responded:

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

Why did he choose to work on New Moon?

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

A fan favorite scene in New Moon is Bella’s spiral into depression after Edward leaves her. Chris explains how he did it.

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

Advice for anyone who wnats to work in film?

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

How can Edward have an orgasm if he’s a vampire?

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

Why are him and Rob so hairy?

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

Is he happy about directing New Moon only, would he have liked to direct Eclipse too?

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

Does he like Friday by Rebecca Black?

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

What does he think about the wolves?

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

On director’s hissy fits.

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

On Kristen’s underwater scenes in New Moon.

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

More on set hissy fits and Rebecca Black. A fan asks about the famous Christian Bale outburst on the set of Terminator, he answers.

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

Does Rob have a shot at an Oscar for Water for Elephants?

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

When Paul and Jacob are in wolf form, wrestling, the camera shook like it was knocked off. Was this on purpose?

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

A fan asked him about Kristen’s swearing on set and it looks like he deleted his answer, but he said:

If S=swear and K=Kristen and s=s, KS=s multiplied by min/mph

Does he think The Hunger Games will match Twilight’s success? He also has an opinion on Harry Potter:

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

On why Bella had golden eyes in the Breaking Dawn vision instead of red:

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

His advice for people who want to work behind the scenes or want to attend film school:

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

Why does Edward get so beat up in the movies?

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

On fake tears in movies:

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

Why didn’t he direct more Twilight films?

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

What would he do if his daughter left for three days chasing a vampire?

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

How different was it to work in the Twilight saga compared to what he did before?

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

On working with Rob again:

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

On rumors of Rob playing Jeff Buckley.

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

Rob changes e-mails constantly because he gets hacked often:

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

What was the stunt Taylor Lautner was not allowed to do in New Moon? He did all his stunts except that one. Which was it?

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

The meadow scene in New Moon, was it an old Twilight outtake or did he shoot a new scene for NM?

[blackbirdpie url=”″]

Would he have preferred to direct a different installment?

[blackbirdpie url=”″]
