Twilight Halloween Cullen Costume Ideas - For boys

Recommended by MTV.com!

After writing the guide for girls, I asked on the news section that if there were any boys (or poor forced husbands) interested in having their own guide to look like Edward, Carlisle, Emmett, Jasper and the nomad boys. Well, surprisingly enough I got tons of e-mails from guys asking me for a guide to dress like a Cullen dude for Halloween. I even got more e-mails fom guys asking for the guide, than from girls commenting on the guide I wrote for them, so here it is.

Now, before we start I'm letting you know that you can push this costume idea as far as you want to. I'm not gonna write a guide exactly like the one I wrote for the girls, make up wise, because not a lot of boys are comfortable with wearing make up, even if it is for Halloween. I wasn't really going to add a make up section until a few boys pointed out to me in their e-mails that they would be up for following some toned down version of the make up suggestions I wrote for the girls' guide, since it was Halloween. The most important thing is that you find similar clothes that the characters wear and you stay away from those crappy Twilight costumes that some companies are selling.

Now let's begin and if you have any ideas, questions, suggestions, etc. you can e-mail me at wolfspirit(at)twilightpoison.com.

Vampire Look - What to do and what not to do

The cool thing about the vampire look in Twilight is that it's handsome, chic and sexy. That's the whole point. So we're really going to try to focus on this. I've seen pictures of a lot of boys dressing up as vampires for release parties and they can only manage the "dead/pale" look, but sometimes it's very un-Twilight. A bit cartoonish. We are going to try and stay away from that in this guide. More important than looking "dead" and "pale" is looking "inhumanly beautiful", in my opinion. And that's what we're going to do :).
Also, we'll try to make it a bit more obvious for those who are not Twilight fans that you are a vampire (or some beautiful mythical creature, in case they don't get it right away!), just so we can spare the annoying "What are you supposed to be...?" questions.

Important! Please remember that the vampires in Twilight do not have fangs! But you can choose to wear some if you want to make it clear you're a vampire and not some Abercrombie model ;).

Contacts Lenses

The very first thing you need to get is... the golden eyes contacts. Or red eyes, in case you want to be a regular vampire or Volturi. Or black eyes if you want to be a hungry vampire ;).

I would have to say that this is a must have for your costume. It's necessary if you want to be dressed as an actual Twilight vampire. If you want to freak out about getting one product on this guide for Halloween, I'd say this would be it. Prices go from $10.00 to $100. The more expensive they are, the better the quality and the best it will be for your eyes.

Here are a other links that sell these colorful contacts:

- BCheap.
- Coastal Contacts.
- Grimm Brothers Halloween.
- Clearly Contacts.
- Haunted Eyes.

If you're going for the vegeterian vampire look stay away from anything yellow and go for the amber/golden colors.

Halloween Vampire Make up for Guys

Now this step is totally optional. Not a lot of guys are up for wearing make up even if it is Halloween. If you don't mind it at all, since you're going to a Halloween party, then you can follow this quick steps. This guide will not be as complicated as the one for girls since you'll be wearing a simpler version of the make up style.
On the girl's guide we tried to avoid completely the whole Halloween-ish look for something more chic and hip. However, the boy make up will have certain Halloween-ish flair to it, since you guys don't usually wear make up and I doubt you want to "glam it up" like I advice girls to do so on their own guide. You will have to wear dark circles under your eyes and some pale make up on your lips so you have no color on them.

This is what you need to get for the face:

- Oil base concealer.
- Oil base foundation.
- Pressed powder.

You can borrow this from any girl you know and even ask her to help you out. If you don't feel comfortable wearing too much of this, toss away the concealer and base, and just add some pressed powder on your face.

Important Tip #1 - Do not get any Halloween-ish make up kits or creams. Not only do they suck and look horrible, they are also terrible for you skin. Ask a girl if she can lend you some and help you apply it. Make up can be expensive, so don't spend on it. You won't use it again.

Important Tip #2 - When you look for the base and concealer don't just get any light color. You need to find a color that suits your skin tone, then pick a couple of shades lighter. Concealer must be lighter than the base foundation.

How to - Now apply the base carefully after washing and moisturizing you skin. Apply gently with the tips of your fingers the concealer around the eyes area. You can ask a girl to help you apply it.

Eye Make-up

For these make up tips I really need to thank my friend Ruben. He suggested me ideas and colors for guys to wear in a cool way.

This is what you absolutely need to get:

- Reddish eye liner (pencil eye liner, solid).
- Red eye shadow.
- Brown eye shadow.

These are the colors and shades you need:

How to apply - You will apply this to lower lashes and under the eye ONLY.
The eye liner is the tricky part, so pay attention because you will need a steady hand. Ask a girl to help you out if you have no idea of what you're doing.
Apply gently a thin layer of red shadow under your eye. Then spread it softly with your finger tip. Don't overdo it. It's a thin blurry line, then you soften it with your finger tip. If you feel like you're overdoing it, you can clean up with cotton swabs.
After you're done, apply gently with your fingertips some gray or brown eye shadow for the dark circles under the eyes. Do this softly and don't overdo it. It's just a tiny bit of eye shadow.
Now you're going to make your brows stand out. Grab some brown eye shadow and apply over your eyebrows. Try not to apply outside the brow.

Lips

This is another completely optional step. Again, it's all about how comfortable you are willing to make yourself up.

This step is quite simple and I'm not going to suggest you wear lipstick, so you can start breathing again. What you can wear is just some simple chapstick, no scent or color. Make sure you didn't get any make up on your lips, unless you want them to look pale (this is what James' lips look like).
The vampires in the Cullen family and in the Volturi gang have bright lips. If this is the look you want you can get a color lip balm. It's not quite lipstick. It's softer, and you apply it with your finger tip. Again, whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Clothes and Character Looks

The good thing about this section is that you will not have to spend money unless you want to. Most of the stuff can be found in your own closet.
The Twilight vampire look, more especifically the Cullens' look that was used for the movie, is all about vintage preppy clothes because the Cullens are rich, and, well, preppy. Plus, they've been alive for many decades (centuries in Carlisle's case) so they might still carry a hint of their favorite clothes and styles of yore.

Important tip: Completely avoid warm colors such as beige, brown, etc. The Cullens are undead, and as a symbol of this, Catherine Hardwicke chose only cold colors for their clothes. If you pay close attention in the movie, the Cullens wear mostly blues, grays, black, white, etc. And as the story progresses and Bella bonds more with them, she starts wearing these colors too.

The Edward Look in Twilight

According to the costume designers for the movie: "His style is formed from Guess, Lacoste, American Apparel T-shirts and sneakers from A-Life. Chuck made the gray jacket he wears herself. “You see blues and grays for the Cullens,” she says. “Their faces look better in darker clothes.”

If you want to dress as Edward, you need to mix very soft colors with gray or black layers. For example, wear a blue shirt with black pants and a dark coat, or a gray sweater with a black blazer. You can wear anything you want, just remember that Edward's clothes are very classy and elegant even for his age, but he mixes modern with vintage. It doesn't mean that he looks like a grandpa. He always wears a nice jacket or coat with a very modern hip shirt and then he adds something cool like a pair of Raybans.

Shirts

Here are some examples of shirts you need to find. Edward always wears these colors for shirts: white, blue, light gray. They can have short sleeves, or long sleeves.

Coats

Edward generally uses very classic coats or jackets in dark colors such as gray, black, navy blue, etc.

Pants

Other Edward looks

We've also seen Edward wear vests. If you want to wear a vest, remember that the same rules apply: light shirt, dark layer, dark pants.

The WayFarer RayBans

A really cool touch could be the RayBan sunglasses. Try to find something like the Way Farer line in black.

Extra Accessories

Edward wears a leather wristcuff on his right arm. The wristcuff has the Cullen Crest. You can purchase the wristcuff right here on Amazon.com.
You can wear something similar like this:

Edward in New Moon

For some reason, in New Moon Edward chose to dress like a Harvard professor. This is not a bad idea at all, since we know Edward is a conservative, old fashioned dude. They don't make them like this anymore!
In New Moon, the undead cold colors rule was broken, and the Cullens start wearing more earth tones such as brown, beige, etc. (perhaps to match the whole new colors palette of the entire movie; if you pay close attention EVERYTHING has more earth tones. The logo, the scenery, etc.)

For this look, try to get a brown coat and wear a black shirt under it. Dressy and classy like Edward! If you don't feel like bein too dressy, you can always look for a dark shirt, more casual, wear a black tee under it and roll your sleeves like Edward.

The Jasper Look

According to the costume designers: “I used a lot from G-Star for Jasper, he’s wearing a G-star jacket and Levi’s and always has Western boots on.”

Jasper's look is a lot like Edward's, except his stuff is more dramatic, edgy and dark. Remember he used to be in the Army, so his clothes can reflect that with some army green on the coat or jacket and some boots.

Shirts

For shirts, you can look for something dark blue or gray. Never light blue like Edward. Jasper is too gangsta for light blue. All the Cullens wear blue, but it varies the tone depending on the character. To match Jasper's personality, you can look for something darker and edgier.

Coats

Jasper's coats are a lot more tough, modern and cool. You can find a coat with an army style, or even a punk rock style.

Pants

You can wear gray denim pants like these. Jasper doesn't wear head to toe nice clothes like Edward. He's more laid back on some aspects.

Accesories

Following the army/rocker style stuff you can also add a pair of cool Aviador shades:

The Emmett Look

According to the costume designers for the movie: Defined by their intimidating gracefulness and beauty, Emmett (in Express) and Rosalie (in a Guess jacket with Miss Sixty jeans) display a polished look while maintaining their high school cover. Instead of going for the stereotypical goth looks for the vampires, Chuck says, “We avoided black completely.” Instead she gravitated towards cool blue and gray tones to convey death and iciness.

Emmett's look is a lot more laid back than his brother's looks. He rarely wears a coat or a nice jacket. And he uses more colors like white and gray.

Sweaters and shirts

Pants

Emmett always wears dark jeans with white sneakers like this:

Accessories

Like Edward, Emmett wears a leather bracelet with the Cullen crest on it. Here's a bracelet you can wear:

The Carlisle Look

Carlisle's look is the most conservative of all the looks because he's the oldest and he's a doctor. You can pretty much repeat the same color and tones: light blues and grays with black layers. But here you are not going to mix anything too hip or modern.

Coats

Here you need a dark coat in colors such as navy blue or black. Then you can just add a lighter scarf.

Pants

Accessories

Carlisle uses the same Cullen crest. His is on a round silver ring.
You can just try to find something like the ring on the left, and you're set.

Volturi Carlisle

A wonderful thing about the character of Carlisle is that he's very old. When he was BFFs with the Volturi back in the day, he dressed just like them.

This costume is a lot cooler than Carlisle's dad clothes. You can rent something similar at a costume shop and choose which Volturi you want to be.

The James Look - The badass nomad vampire

James' look is very sexy, badass and rocker.

You basically need a leather jacket and a pair of ripped and torn rocker jeans.

James' accesories

Eventhough James is a nomad, he still wears cool accesories, like leather necklace with a silver charm, silver bracelets and leather belts.

The Laurent Look - The badass but stylish nomad vampire

Laurent's style is similar to James' style. He wears ripped jeans too, leather belts and accessories, etc. The difference is that despite being a very badass look, it's still more stylish than James. He wears leather blazers, velvet blazers and scarves.

The Volturi Look

The thing about the Volturis is that they're very disconnected with the time they're living in. They never leave their castle, they don't even go out and hunt. They're completely unaware of what people wear these days, and it doesn't seem like they would care very much either. According to Edward, nobody even knows how many millennia they've been alive for, so they probably do not wear anything modern-looking. The most modern pieces of clothes they wear look like they belong to the XIX century. This look is great because it makes them look even more like the vampire royalty that they are. They wouldn't be so enigmatic if they were wearing Ralph Lauren or Burberry. Leave that to Edward and Carlisle ;).
If you notice these guys looks, they're very similar. Brown velvet clothes, scarves, fancy stuff.

Each of them adds his own spin. Aro is more stylish and perhaps the one who would wear something more modern, like a two piece black velvet suit. Caius adds a scarlet scarf, wears a brown velvet coat, matching pants and a black velvet cloak. Marcus is by far the scariest, he would wear a dark velvet cloak with a light scarf, creepy face to match. Alec is the youngest of the bunch, so his look is much more boyish, he wears a XIX century school boy coat.

As a final touch you can purchase the official Volturi pendant.

The Wolfpack Look

Finally we have the wolfpack look. If you have a great body and are not ashamed of showing it off, you can go shirtless with a pair of jeans and be the a wolfpack member. You can ask an artistic friend of yours to pain the wolfpack tattoo on your right arm:

Aditional Twilight/Cullen/Volturi jewerly and apparel you might like to wear:

That's it! I hope you find this guide easy and useful. If you're still a bit clueless, ask a friend to help you out or you can always e-mail me with questions. Let me know if you used the guide and send pictures if you can! ;) Have fun!
